 Principal's Blog

From the desk of Mr. Johnson.....

Basswood Elementary was built in 2008 and welcomed approximately 260 students in grades kindergarten through fourth.  We began with only seventeen classrooms and have been growing ever since. Students and staff created a time capsule that first year and we look forward to opening it in 2018 with alumni students.  Over the past 7 years we have grown to 37 classrooms and also added a bilingual program that consists of 10 classrooms.  We have increased our enrollment to approximately 656  and now have fifth grade at our campus while the new intermediate/middle school is being built.  The start of the 8th year has been great and over the years there have been many wonderful memories created along with the start of several campus traditions.  The students and staff recite our campus creed each morning as we start our day.  It reads, I am a Basswood Hawk.  I believe in myself and will do my best so I will achieve my goals.  I have Hawk PRIDE-WATCH ME SOAR!  Students are proud to be a Basswood Hawk and they exhibit this each and every day with the dedication to learning.  We also live by our vision statement which says, Basswood Elementary intentionally inspires student to soar to educational success – fostering a diverse community that nurtures traditions and values, creating unlimited opportunities.  We strive to be a welcoming environment and appreciate the support we receive from parents, students, local businesses and churches.  Without this support, our school would not be what it is today.  I am proud to be a part of what Basswood has become and look forward to the successful future of our students.
